Perils of Percy & Small Shipyard

Tuesday September 29

6:00 PM  –  7:00 PM

The Percy & Small Shipyard at Maine Maritime Museum was part of an industrial center of shipbuilding in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. While the shipyard is currently located on a site of relaxation and learning, this presentation will take attendees back in time to the years of Percy & Small’s operation, when it was the site of heavy labor and tragedy. Attendees will learn the most common causes and impacts of shipyard injuries and deaths through statistics and true human stories recovered from newspaper accounts from the time that these events took place.

Allie Travers is the Manager of Education at Maine Maritime Museum. Allie manages the development, facilitation, and evaluation of the museum’s educational programming and has a professional background in education in classroom and early childhood facility settings. She holds a bachelor of science degree in Early Childhood Education from Towson University and a Maine State teaching certificate.
