Monday August 7

9:00 AM  –  4:00 PM

Mariners’ Adventure Camp (rising 6 – 8 grade students) introduces campers to the life, skills, and adventures of Maine mariners, past and present.

Give your child a chance of a lifetime to learn what it took to be a mariner in the Golden Age of Sail! Maine Maritime Museum, in collaboration with Maine’s First Ship, will lead campers through a week-long experience based of the life, skills, and adventure of Maine mariners and boatbuilders. Campers will work with professional boatbuilders to learn woodworking and blacksmithing in the museum's Boatshop and blacksmith forge, meet riggers at Maine's First Ship and learn about the 1607 replica Virginia, get out on the mighty Kennebec River to explore our local flora and fauna, and embrace the magnificent maritime history of Midcoast Maine.

Traditional skill lessons with experienced mariners will include blacksmithing, woodworking, rigging, knot-tying, treenail making, sea shanties, and more. Campers will work together to learn these skills and forge a sense of community, teamwork, and leadership, much like what would have existed on a 19th century ship.

Mariners' Adventure Camp runs August 7 – 11, from 9 am to 4:00 pm.  Early drop-off and late pick-up is available (8 am to 5:00 pm) for an additional $35. Campers must bring a lunch. A mid-morning snack will be provided. Campers should be prepared for indoor and outdoor activities each day.  All PPE will be provided.

Limited scholarships available.
