Re|Sounding is more than an exhibition, it is a commitment to amplifying community voices and including undertold narratives in future exhibits. Following research that began nearly five years prior to the exhibit’s opening, museum curators worked closely with an Advisory Committee for 18 months on the curation and design of Re|Sounding.

This presentation will convey the process for responsibly creating an exhibit that includes new voices in sharing perspectives previously untold at the museum. Attendees will learn about preliminary research and new scholarship, the process and value of the Advisory Committee, and the sustained partnerships with communities, scholars, and organizations throughout the state. The presentation aligns with the release of the Re|Sounding exhibit catalog: Re|Sounding: Recovering Maine’s Undertold Maritime History, published by Down East Books.
